It was enough to make certain fans cry tears of joy when the initial online Chinese whispers were confirmed that DJ heroes A-Trak and Armand Van Helden really were joining forces to create a new heavyweight production tag-team. Having recently soft-released ‘aNYway’ through A-Trak’s Fools Gold label, the track has found itself in the hands of all the right people with it now growing from an underground club smash into a daytime radio hit, with every presenter desperate to play this years biggest disco anthem.
With a similar approach and ethos to their music, i.e. both being hip-hop guys and then falling for house and electronic music, it’s certainly one of the most natural parings and the results, as you will hear, speak for themselves.Moving in similar circles A-Trak and Armand teamed up after a number of chance meetings in New York and with a mutual respect for each others work, they came up with the concept of melding the spirit of classic disco house with updated production thump and clever new twists. They wanted to create floor fillers, the kind of records they could use at the very peak of their sets, big tracks that were instantly credible and dangerously addictive.
